I just wanted to take a minute to say how excited I am about this new workout program I’m creating 😀 (If you didn’t read my last post, I’m creating a program that combines barre with weightlifting.) I tested out the first leg workout in the series and oh. my word. The pain!! I haven’t had this many muscles sore in my lower body in a very long time. You know how when you do a barre workout all the tiny muscles you didn’t know existed get sore, versus all the bigger muscles that are sore and shaky after a lifting routine? If you’ve done either you know exactly what I mean, and if you’ve done both you know the extreme difference between the two.
Well anyways apparently I very effectively combined the two yesterday because all my muscles, big and small, are really, really sore today. The workout had my heart rate up in a really good way through the entire workout, tested my endurance and functional strength, and really opened up my hips nicely (something I’ve been in dire need of since I quit yoga). I also realized today that my lower back feels amazing. It had been bothering me for the last week because I went too long without deadlifting and when I did a lifting workout on Saturday it threw things out of whack. I’m pretty sure the single leg exercises I did yesterday helped get my vertebrae back where they needed to be as well as waking up the supporting core muscles to get back to their job.
The only downside is that today my right knee is bothering me, which sometimes happens after I do lunges. So I might have to do a different kind of lunge next time. But overall I loved the workout and I’m having a great time creating more. I did an arm/upper body workout tonight and it felt great, we’ll see how sore I am tomorrow and Thursday 🙂 I can’t wait to finish the program and release it to you guys! I’m anxious to see how it works for other people besides me.
